Bakewells was started over fifty years ago by Sidney Bakewell. Originally the shop was in Queen Street in Penrith, later the business was taken over by Mr Ernest Birkbeck. Ernest was joined in the business by his son Colin in 1965, and the shop is now owned and managed by Colin and his wife Elizabeth. The shop moved to the current premises in 1977, and sold Television and Radio. Currently operating from the Market square showroom, and Queen Street workshop we employ around 10 full and part time staff. The product range includes most electrical goods including domestic appliances. The Company runs a fleet of delivery vans which can be regularly seen around Penrith and north Cumbria delivering or servicing customers’ electrical goods. Three members of staff specialise in repairs to Television, Recorders and Audio products, and we have two members of the team that are available to install Satellite systems in the area. The shop has four sales areas, and is located on two floors on the corner of Market Square in Penrith. Penrith is a small market town undergoing many changes, there are many specialist shops, many of whom have been in business for a considerable length of time.
